Leading US regional bank: Enterprise reporting modernisation

A leading regional US bank partnered with us to modernise its reporting environment and enable faster, data-driven decision-making. The bank was transitioning from a 20-year-old on-premises legacy system to a cloud-based solution. Over time, the legacy system had grown to more than 3,000 reports, becoming difficult to navigate and consuming significant support resources. We were engaged to build a unified reporting environment in Power BI, eliminate redundant reports and improve overall reporting performance.

  • Outcome 1: Modernised and unified the reporting landscape, cutting the total number of reports to around 1,000 and delivering simpler maintenance, more streamlined operations, improved scalability and a significant reduction in support effort
  • Outcome 2: Improved performance and user experience with faster report refresh and load times – allowing teams to access insights quickly, improving reliability and decision speed
  • Outcome 3: Consolidated duplicates for clarity and consistency making it easier for users to find and access the insights they needed, ensured greater consistency across business units, and enabled more confident, data-driven decision-making across the organisation

The challenge

The US banking industry continues to evolve rapidly, with increasing demand for real-time insights to guide decisions and manage risk. Traditional reporting systems often struggle to keep up with data growth, complex structures and changing business needs.

Our client recognised that their legacy reporting tools were no longer sufficient to support their teams’ agility and insight generation. To remain competitive, teams needed a modern, centralised reporting environment to improve efficiency, support faster decisions and embed data into everyday operations.

The existing reporting landscape had become difficult to manage. Over time, multiple versions of the same report had been created to support different frequencies, such as daily, weekly and monthly resulting in more than 3,000 active reports. Reports were slow to refresh, maintenance required significant effort and users struggled to find the information they needed quickly. These limitations delayed business decisions and reduced confidence in the data. Our client needed a simplified, scalable solution to improve access, performance, as well as more consistent and efficient approach to reporting.

The approach

Our team conducted a full assessment of the existing legacy reporting environment. We identified duplicate and unused reports, optimised underlying queries and consolidated multiple report versions into single, configurable Power BI reports. Reports were migrated using Power BI Report Builder, while others were redesigned in Power BI Desktop for better interactivity and performance.  We collaborated closely with business units throughout the migration to ensure the reports aligned with their needs and followed best practices in reporting design.

The impact

We reduced more than 3,000 legacy reports to roughly 1,000 consolidated Power BI reports, delivering measurable improvements in speed, consistency and user experience.

  • Teams now access accurate insights quickly, improving efficiency and enabling faster business decisions.
  • Maintenance is simpler, data consistency has improved and users benefit from enhanced interactivity.
  • The new reporting platform has become a trusted foundation for data-driven decision-making across the bank. It has improved visibility across business lines, accelerated reporting processes and created a scalable environment that supports the bank’s future growth and innovation in data analytics.
