Global reinsurance provider: Designing a global AI strategy and roadmap 

Our client, a global reinsurance provider, sought clarity on the rapidly evolving generative AI landscape within their industry. Fragmented internal alignment and disconnected initiatives were slowing progress in this area, making it challenging to act quickly and seize practical opportunities to unlock value.

The challenge

This global reinsurance provider sought to understand how generative AI can create value within the insurance sector, both today and in the future. Their goal was to identify industry innovations and emerging developments and, by leveraging stakeholder insights, build a prioritised list of AI use cases supported by a structured roadmap for enterprise-wide implementation and mobilisation. Internal fragmentation meant this would be a significant undertaking, spanning both the identification of use cases and their implementation and mobilisation.

The approach

We conducted extensive market research to identify the latest developments in generative AI and assess industry-specific applications, culminating in a comprehensive Market Trend Report. This foundation provided a clear view of the evolving AI landscape within reinsurance.

Our approach incorporated direct input from over 45 stakeholders, capturing perspectives on current initiatives, strategic goals and areas of potential impact. We supplemented these insights with two executive workshops, designed to align leadership on AI priorities and define the most relevant use cases for the organisation.

From this work, we established ten generative AI objectives explicitly tied to the client’s corporate and data strategies, creating a structured framework for integration. The resulting prioritised strategy and roadmap enabled immediate productivity gains while establishing the foundation for long-term AI transformation.

The Impact

Stakeholder engagement and the integration of market insights sparked organisation-wide alignment, resulting in 167 tailored AI use cases and a unified global AI mandate. By prioritising and phasing these initiatives into a structured roadmap across five transformative areas, the organisation gained a clear, actionable plan to implement generative AI and realise tangible business value.
