What is generative AI? What types of content can be generated using it?

You’ve probably heard of generative AI thanks to the prolific adoption of ChatGPT and related chatbots like Claude from Anthropic and Bard from Google. It’s probably also in most of the tools you use daily, for example, autocomplete in your email.

We asked ChatGPT to explain generative AI and here’s what it said:

Generative AI is a branch of artificial intelligence that uses machine learning models to generate new content. This can be anything – text, images, music, video, and more.

This is achieved through a type of model called a generative model. A generative model learns patterns in the data it’s trained on and then uses this learning to create or “generate” new data that resembles the training data.

One of the key techniques used in generative AI is called a GAN, or Generative Adversarial Network. It’s kind of like a contest between two AI models – one tries to create realistic data (the “generator”), and the other tries to tell if the data is real or fake (the “discriminator”). They keep challenging each other until the generator gets really good at making data that the discriminator can’t tell is fake.

However, it’s important to remember that while generative AI can create incredibly realistic outputs, it doesn’t truly “understand” the content it’s generating – it’s simply predicting what comes next based on patterns it’s seen in its training data.”

We help companies select and implement the best generative AI approach for their business, processes, and data. Some challenges might be best solved with a Large Language Model (LLM) like GPT-4, while others could benefit from an image-based model like Stable Diffusion.

Whatever your business challenge, we help you apply this technology so you can better manage risk, increase productivity, generate revenue, and save money, without sacrificing on security, compliance or privacy. Scroll to find out how.

How can generative AI transform your business?

What can generative AI do for your business? Generative AI offers a whole host of opportunities to transform your business across all facets of your organisation, whatever the approach. Be that developing a custom LLM, fine-tuning an existing model with your proprietary data, deploying custom expert agents, deploying a customer-friendly chatbot or creating something completely bespoke, we’ll determine what generative AI strategy works best for your business. And the results? From streamlining and eliminating repetitive workflows and operations to scaling manual processes inside existing tools, analysing and organising structured and unstructured data, cleaning and filling data gaps, identifying areas of risk and managing compliance, and automating and simplifying complex processes and tasks, generative AI drives growth across the board.

What are the business cases of generative AI?

Our team can support you across your generative AI journey end-to-end. Whether you’re a bank looking to streamline risk identification and fraud detection, an insurer wanting to optimise underwriting, or a retailer looking to automate processes to increase the efficiency of your sales team, the use cases for generative AI application are endless.

The first step in the process is to identify workflows and processes that tend to take lots of time and require data spread across multiple systems. Another great starting point is daily tasks that are repetitive. Once you research and assess each use case, you can score them based on the impact to the business and the complexity of the solution needed.

This is where we excel.

What advancements in generative AI are expected?

The future of generative AI is evolving rapidly. Each week new models are released, new use cases are identified, and last week’s challenges have been solved.

We’ve never seen a technology move this quickly and have such a profound impact.

With the technology constantly evolving and learning, the possibilities for advancement with generative AI are endless. It’s our mission to ensure your business is a part of this. By partnering with us and implementing the technology today, we’ll shape the future of your business and industry with the proper generative AI business application.

What are the risks of using generative AI technology?

We help companies navigate this question daily. The most common risks we explore are related to security, privacy, bias and ethics. Taking the time to create your unique guidelines and policies for selecting, implementing and using generative AI is critical.

Whilst this technology is still emerging, another way of looking at it is with regard to the risk of not investing in this technology. From efficiency to new product innovation, there are myriad opportunities to transform your business. For example – with a 95% reduction in time spent on manual processes, what could you achieve? We used generative AI to help a leading asset manager do just that. It’s only a matter of time before generative AI will have advanced your competitors, so ensure you’re ahead of the game, using the technology in impactful ways.

Let us show you how to put generative AI into action and see the value.

Boston Red Sox: making data clean and valuable

Our client’s data was disorganised and incomplete, which was prohibiting the organisation from using it to target its database with offerings, and requiring additional time from employees when handling customer support, among other limitations.
