Modernizing CNI core infrastructure for the future

Our client, a private national energy utility, was approaching the end of a 10-year contract with its incumbent data service provider. We guided them through two critical procurement exercises to transition to a modernized target architecture – enhancing competition, flexibility and cost-efficiency while enabling long-term performance improvements.

  • Outcome 1: Enabled competitive procurement, removing the incumbent monopoly model and fostering competitive in-life changes
  • Outcome 2: Delivered fit-for-purpose Master Service Agreements (MSAs) and Statements of Work (SOWs) aligned with client requirements
  • Outcome 3: Established a scalable governance framework that supported decision-making efficiency, ensuring on-time delivery of procurement exercises

The challenge

Our client faced the expiration of a decade-long data service provider contract, a critical juncture in its operations. Amid growing industry demands for digital transformation and modernised infrastructure, our client sought to transition to a more flexible and competitive model. By modernising their service infrastructure, we aimed to address increasing performance and cost-efficiency needs, ensuring scalability for future demands.

Our client required support with two complex procurement exercises to transition from a single-provider model to a modernised target architecture. This involved managing the Go-to-Market (GTM) stages, engaging potential suppliers and driving a highly competitive process. The transition needed to ensure performance continuity, flexibility and cost benefits, with tight deadlines and resource constraints adding pressure to the process.

The approach

  • Managed GTM stages, down-selecting suppliers through robust evaluation and moderation frameworks
  • Developed a comprehensive ITT suite and coordinated clarifications, presentations and evaluations to streamline decision-making
  • Used the collaborative solutioning method with shortlisted suppliers to align solutions with client needs
  • Implemented BAFO processes, governance frameworks and program management to drive effective contracting
  • Delivered robust MSAs and SOWs tailored to the business’s modernized infrastructure goals, ensuring supplier accountability and performance

The value delivered

Our approach drove a competitive procurement process that replaced the legacy monopoly model with a flexible, high-performing ecosystem of service providers. Our client achieved improved supplier engagement, stronger governance and robust contractual agreements tailored to their infrastructure needs. This modernized framework provided scalability and operational efficiencies, enabling theto remain agile and competitive in a rapidly evolving industry landscape.
