Our client, a leading utility in the U.S., engaged us to develop a business-aligned data archival strategy for managing 14 years of historical data.
- Outcome 1: Expected $4-6M in savings per year from 2025 onward through data archival.
- Outcome 2: Saved 667 hours per month in year-end close, payroll and timesheets processing and customer service requests by reducing system delays & downtime with this data management archival strategy.
- Outcome 3: Reduced data exposure by 50%, mitigating regulatory fines of up to $1M per day.
The challenge
Data archival was identified as a key opportunity within the OEC Application Program. We were engaged to develop a business–aligned data archival strategy for 14 years of historical data.
The goal was to analyse the client’s largest data sets within its core enterprise applications and develop data management solutions for key departments, including Finance, Human Resources, Customer Services, Transportation Services Department and cross-functional teams.
The approach
To assist our client, we did the following:

- Summarized best practice data management steps, key regulatory considerations and highlighted learnings from competitors
- Assessed data
- Reviewed and analysed internal systems, worked with business leadership to understand how, when, where and why data is used
- Built the business case
- Identified solutions based on business use, data volume, compliance, regulatory need and system efficiency
- Drove alignment
