Everyone is using AI. Teams are summarizing emails, drafting presentations and asking ChatGPT or Claude to refine copy. Those use cases are now familiar across most organizations, and they’re useful.<\/p>\n

But they’re unlikely to change commercial performance. Three years after generative AI entered the workplace, the conversation is starting to shift. The question is no longer whether your teams are using AI. It’s whether your commercial engine works differently because of it. That’s where the real opportunity lies.<\/p>\n

From prompts to processes<\/h3>\n

Most organizations have focused on teaching individuals how to write better prompts. While that can improve personal productivity, it rarely changes how the business operates.<\/p>\n

The bigger opportunity is to identify repeatable commercial processes that can be improved through AI. Such as prospecting, tender management, data analysis and cross-selling.<\/p>\n

These are activities that happen every day, at scale, across commercial teams. Rather than relying on individuals to build their own prompts or GPTs, organizations should ask which of these processes create the most value if they become faster, more consistent or easier to execute.<\/p>\n

The companies making progress are moving beyond AI as a personal assistant and embedding it into the way work gets done.<\/p>\n

Then comes the bigger question<\/h3>\n

Improving today’s processes is only the first step. The next is asking what those processes would look like if they were designed for an AI-first world from the beginning. Could pricing be generated in seconds rather than days? Could smaller customers receive a better experience without depending entirely on individual salespeople? Could cross-selling become a continuous capability rather than an occasional campaign?<\/p>\n

These questions move AI beyond efficiency and into commercial transformation. Instead of asking how AI supports the existing business, they ask how the business itself should change.<\/p>\n

Commercial impact starts with practical use cases<\/h3>\n

Prospecting is one of the clearest examples. It’s a process that most organizations recognize as important but difficult to execute consistently. It requires research, insight and persistence, making it both time-consuming and highly variable. AI changes that equation.<\/p>\n

One manufacturing business used AI to strengthen prospecting in a new market, generating millions in additional pipeline within its first year before expanding the approach across other markets.<\/p>\n

Another organization uses publicly available intent data together with AI to create relevant outreach at scale, generating new opportunities each week with minimal sales effort. The common thread isn’t automation for its own sake. It’s using AI where good commercial judgment still matters, while removing the manual work that often prevents teams from acting at all.<\/p>\n

The tool is becoming less important<\/h3>\n

Recent enterprise adoption trends also point in the same direction. While Anthropic has overtaken OpenAI in first-time enterprise AI spend, the more significant takeaway isn’t which platform is winning. It’s that organizations are increasingly choosing capable tools across the market. As technology becomes more widely available, selecting a model is less likely to be a source of competitive advantage. The differentiator becomes the workflow built on top of it.<\/p>\n

Looking beyond today’s software<\/h3>\n

This shift also has implications for the systems commercial teams rely on every day. Enterprise customer relationship management platforms have traditionally been built around standardized processes and reporting requirements. AI creates the possibility for something much more adaptable: software that reflects how individual commercial teams actually sell, rather than forcing them into the same model.<\/p>\n

As software becomes faster and cheaper to build, commercial leaders have an opportunity to rethink not just how they use AI, but the tools they use to run their businesses.
