Following several years of subdued performance, the European region of this global beauty and fashion business was under significant pressure to transform. To address the challenges they were facing, they needed to look at the operating model within their new product development, buying and merchandising processes.

The challenge

This beauty business wanted us to create common processes across multiple countries and ways of working, to clearly define roles and accountabilities for each level, improving collaboration between commercial and non-commercial functions, and allowing more time to develop the right product range.

They also wanted outputs to be produced in a format which could easily be repurposed for training materials in a future phase of work.

The approach

Over the course of several structured interviews and multi-functional workshops, we documented future processes, identified key inputs and outputs, defined accountabilities and identified the templates required to support each process step.

Outputs were delivered against an intensive project plan to support a planned training initiative in the company.

The value

We successfully defined a new product development process for this beauty and fashion business. It included buying and merchandising processes which allowed more time to develop the right product range, and move range sign-off closer to market. At each level, we defined clear roles and accountabilities with a RACI matrix covering the processes, as well as creating maps for new product development, buying and merchandising.
